Seasonal Outrider Position - Iowa / Prairie Meadows

Prairie Meadows Racetrack in Altoona, Iowa has an open seasonal position in the Racing Dept. for an Outrider. Our 2026 live racing season in Iowa begins on May 2, 2026 and continues through September 26, 2026 with 76 total race days scheduled. Live racing schedule is typically on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday during the season. The horse training schedule begins Monday, April 6, 2026. If you have a background or knowledge in horse racing working with horses and experience catching horses at a racetrack this opportunity may be what you’re looking for! OUTRIDER (supervise all horses and riders on main or training track during training sessions, supervise horses during post parades and arriving at the starting gate during live racing sessions, coordinate/communicate with Stewards/Racing Officials about any issues with horses, riders, safety/emergencies, etc., must have reliable catch horses with proper health requirements to perform this job. Salary plus horse care stipend.
