Salary:                                    $66,951 – $85,138

(Appointees who work in the five boroughs of New York City or in Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, or Westchester, Counties will receive an additional $4,000 annual downstate adjustment)

Bargaining Unit:                   PEF

Work Schedule:                     Monday through Friday

9:00 AM – 5:00 PM with additional hours including weekends and holidays.

Travel:                                    Up to 50% travel may be required.

Duties:

Under the direction of the Director of Racing Investigations, Division of Horse Racing and Pari-Mutuel Wagering, the Racing Investigator will perform duties that include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Conducts investigations, and interviews of alleged violations relative to the conduct of racing, including equine incidents, or such related matters concerning police activities and law enforcement at the racetracks.
  • Compiles and submits reports to the Gaming Commission regarding these activities.
  • Conducts surveillance at the racetracks to determine and assist in relieving problems of administrative control and security including identification and exclusion of unlicensed individuals and other persons engaged in possible unlawful activities.
  • Gives testimony as required at hearings concerning suspensions, revocations, and other proceedings regarding evidence resulting from investigations.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned, which may include travel to assist in other investigations, assisting with drug testing for licensees, and assisting with the Bureau of Licensing.

Preferred Qualifications:

Six years of criminal investigative experience involving fraud, corruption, organized crime, gambling, or other related experience, of which six months must be in the horse racing industry. Equal years of experience in the horse racing industry may substitute for equal years of criminal investigative experience.
