Horse Racing Official (Judge, Standardbred) - BC

Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Burnaby Horse Racing Official (Judge, Standardbred Racing) $66,900.01 – $94,600.06 annually The Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch provides policy, standards, regulatory, audit, conducts investigations and enforcement oversight of all gambling and horse racing sectors to ensure the integrity of public gambling in the Province. The Racing Division is responsible for overseeing horse racing events, determining the outcome of each race, and adjudicating any related matters, to ensure and improve public confidence in the racing industry.
Horse Racing Officials, (Stewards and Judges), are responsible for monitoring and enforcing the Rules of Thoroughbred & Standardbred Racing, Regulations and Policies at all race meetings, racetracks, and designated horse racing training centres in order to ensure the safety and integrity of horse racing. This is a unique role for an experienced individual with comprehensive working knowledge of the racing industry. You are an effective communicator, able to work collaboratively with a wide variety of groups, including horse racing regulatory agencies and associations, racing officials, owners, and other Judges and Stewards; provide supervision and control of horse racing meets to determine race winners; and prepare and present cases at review hearings.

Qualifications for this role include:
• Senior Secondary graduation or equivalent
• Five (5) years of experience working in the pari-mutuel standardbred horse racing industry as a Racing Official, (Judge, Inspector, Paddock Judge, Racing Secretary, or other Racing official position that involved interpreting the Rules of Horse Racing and making judgements OR
• Seven (7) years of experience in the pari-mutuel standardbred horse racing industry in a non-Racing Official position that still involved interpreting the Rules of Horse Racing, such as Driver, or Trainer.
