Job Description
The Racing Official is responsible for performing multiple functions in racing operations. The candidate must have experience in multiple positions pertaining to the racing department operation including entry clerk, stakes coordinator, claims clerk, placing judge and participation in the entry draw process.
Entry Clerk:
Enter Horses into races offered by the racing secretary for each live racing card by computer, in-person, phone /text etc.
Verify accuracy of entry information.
Determine eligibility and starting requirements.
Solicit entries from trainers and authorized agents when required.
Entry-Draw Process
Enter entry information into database using RTO - IN Compass system.
Participate in the Entry Draw process.
Verify accuracy of daily information.
Distribute information to individuals, outlets and departments.
Placing Judge
Set up photo finish and teletimer equipment for each live race.
Record information during live race; communicate to Tote Board and TV Room.
Determine order of finish for all horses within each race.
Examine photo finishes and process outcomes on the electronic tote board.
Communicate with Stewards, Mutuel Managers' office, Bookkeeper, Track Announcer and Equibase.
Post results accurately to Tote Board.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Possess knowledge of thoroughbreds/ racing.
Ability to move around the property and climb stairs.
Excellent communication skills with all organizational levels.
Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
Knowledgeable with State Racing Commission regulations.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
Previous experience in the Horse Racing Industry
PC experience; database maintenance, data entry
