Paddock Judge/Identifier (Running Aces Casino, Hotel Racetrack)

Running Aces Casino, Hotel & Racetrack is seeking a Paddock Judge/Identifier for the 2023 Racing Season. Candidate will need to be in Columbus, Minnesota from May 1st through September 16th.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Ensures that only properly authorized persons enter the paddock
• Maintains proper check-in and check-out of horses and drivers entering and exiting the paddock
• Inspects the horses for changes in equipment, broken or faulty equipment, or saddle pads
• Ensures the field are on the racetrack for post parades in accordance with the schedule
• Notifies the Presiding Judge immediately of anything that could in any way change, delay, or otherwise affect the racing program
• Inspects each horse prior to its departure from the paddock to the post parade to confirm the horse’s proper identity
• Directs activities of the Paddock Blacksmith
• Distributes, collects and maintains saddle pads
• Monitors overall cleanliness of the paddock and cleans paddock as needed
• Assigns ship in stalls
• Distributes racing programs to the backstretch

Skills/Requirements
• Must possess thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of racing and racing operations
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills – including being fluent and literate in English
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism
• Ability to interact with guests, staff, and colleagues and resolve problems and conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner
• Possesses excellent problem solving, organizational, and time management skills
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
• Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with team members at all levels of the organization
• Possesses knowledge on rules and regulations of The Minnesota Racing Commission & The United States Trotting Association
• Must possess the ability to obtain Minnesota Racing Commission & United States Trotting Association licenses
