Thoroughbred Aftercare & Events Liaison, Santa Anita Park

Summary:

The Thoroughbred Aftercare Liaison is responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and advocating thoroughbred aftercare by establishing a direct line of communication with horsemen, horsemen groups and accredited aftercare facilities to assist with finding options for horsemen to safely retire their racehorses and tracking placements after adoption. Events, fundraising and marketing projects will also be necessary along with administrative duties within the racing office.   

Key Requirements: 

  • Must be able to work and stand outside in a busy racetrack environment and have ability to converse with horsemen as needed
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Thoroughbred racing industry. Knowledge of Santa Anita Park and the California horsemen is preferred
  • Have working knowledge of the CARMA Program and work as a branch of their team as needed •      Fundraising and/or events experience preferred
  • Detail-oriented mindset, meticulous record keeping a must
  • Understanding of google docs, excel and other data and collaborative reporting methods •    Ability to multitask

Primary Duties:

  • Support and coordinate with the CARMA program to aide in thoroughbred aftercare
  • Act as a liaison between Santa Anita Park and the California horsemen for safe aftercare options
  • Field phone calls/emails/texts from trainers and other horsemen 
  • Aide in creation, dispersal, and communication of awareness materials  
  • Work with TAA, CARMA and TAA-accredited organizations in California and throughout the US
  • Assist in placement and tracking of Thoroughbreds leaving Santa Anita Park to TAA-accredited organizations or other aftercare organizations
  • Ensure proper vetting of any private placements 
  • Maintain an inventory of all Thoroughbreds placed out of Santa Anita Park through the program
  • Create reports for management of horses placed, needing placement and follow up
  • Assist with fundraising opportunities and events for aftercare organizations
  • Be an advocate for Thoroughbreds of Santa Anita Park after their racing careers are complete
  • Communicate and develop with the marketing department for a monthly spotlight on horses placed/second careers
  • Work in marketing ventures that deal directly with horsemen and stakeholder groups 
  • Be available for any events showcasing Santa Anita, aftercare, or other equine programs 
  • Report unsafe behavior to the Racing Office
