Assistant Horsemen's Bookkeeper - NYRA

Overview:

Serves as an intermediary between NYRA and the horsemen (owners, jockeys and trainers).  Provides customer services handling all financial activities for authorized horsemen who own personal accounts at NYRA.  Manages credit of winnings and debit of fees and expenses to and from accounts.  Authorizes check cashing for horsemen with NYRA accounts. 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform various activities for maintaining horsemen’s accounts in accordance with policies and procedures, which involves the following:
    • Open accounts for horsemen doing business at NYRA through the Incompass System;
    • Provide, receive and file all required documentation such as signature cards and tax forms;
    • Perform up to date data entry of horsemen information;
    • Perform research for accounts with returned mail.
    • Posts deposits and withdrawals to/from horsemen accounts in InCompass.

 

  • Provide customer service and handle various financial activities for authorized horsemen who maintain accounts with NYRA, which involves the following:
    • Provide quality customer service for horsemen in person, as well as, on the phone;
    • Process a high volume of check disbursements on a daily basis while following policies and procedures.

 

  • Perform various other tasks, which involves the following:
    • Research and verify account information as needed;
    • Process mailings to horsemen;
    • Performs background checks on all new horsemen accounts;
    • Performs AML Reporting and processes bridger reports for Horsemen’s Bookkeeper;
    • Processes posting of races, horse claims (purchasing of horses through NYRA accounts) arranging debiting and crediting from buyer to seller accounts; 
    • Assists in the end-of-day reconciliation;
    • Aids in the administration and collection of New York Jockey Injury Fund and Worker’s Compensation Insurance fees;
    • Mails account statements monthly as well as at the end of every meet.;
    • Processes Jockey and trainer payroll on behalf of owners once a week when required;
    • Facilitates check cashing for authorized horsemen;
    • Posts Stake accounts charging owners’ accounts nomination fees;
    • Performs daily race convert ensuring the distribution of purses are deposited to the proper owners’ account.
  •  Education: Associate’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  •  Experience: 3-5 years of administrative, bookkeeping, payroll or accounting experience.
  • Other Requirements: Strong computer skills with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel and Word; Knowledge of horse racing required; must relocate to Saratoga for the summer meet (mid-July to Labor Day).
