Hastings Racecourse is currently seeking a Manager, Pari-Mutuels Operations to join the management team. Our next Manager, Pari-Mutuels Operations, will be responsible for ensuring company-wide compliance with all cash and Pari-Mutuel operations and procedures undertaken by the company. Reporting to the General Manager, the Manager’s role is to ensure the integrity of HEI monetary procedures, control expenditures, develop staff and junior management and standardize Money Room and Pari-Mutuel policy and procedures.
Our next Manager, Pari-Mutuel Operations, will be responsible for:
- the overall administration of the Pari-Mutuel department and the Cash Operations department
- balancing daily cash of the Money Room
- developing the annual budget for the Pari-Mutuel Department
- developing and implementing procedures in conjunction with the General Manager, BCLC, GPEB and CPMA to ensure the highest level of efficiency and customer service possible
- safeguarding Pari-Mutuel funds and cash equivalents by ensuring all accounting, administration and asset handling procedures are consistent and proper
- fostering close working relationships with HEI management, BCLC regional management, GPEB investigators, CPMA and GCC management
- coordinating with remote Simulcast partners on live wagering profile and race changes in conjunction with the Simulcast Director
- ensuring Pari-Mutuel and Cash Operations management schedules are regularly maintained and reviewing staffing levels on an ongoing basis
- assisting in the development of long-term business strategies to maximize labour potential
- responding to all customer comments and complaints in a timely and effective manner
- resolving any issues detrimental to the effective operation of the Pari-Mutuel department in any and all locations
- developing a close working relationship between Pari-Mutuel staff, HEI management and Union representatives
- ensuring the integrity of all company business and respect corporate confidentiality with the highest regard
- reviewing Assistant Managers’ performance on a regular basis, and assist in developing their knowledge, confidence and effectiveness
- conducting annual performance evaluations for all Pari-Mutuel staff
- other exciting and challenging duties as required
Successful candidates will demonstrate the following qualifications:
- Previous management experience in an operations or gaming environment, strong knowledge of thoroughbred racing and regulations
- University degree in business accounting or business management
- A strong understanding of relevant accounting procedures
- Ability to work well under pressure and with minimal supervision and/or in a team setting
- Superior organizational abilities, a high level of accuracy, good attention to detail and the ability to multitask
- Excellent inter-personal skills and customer service skills
- Excellent communication skills including good oral and written English
- Serving It Right Certification or the ability to achieve a Serving It Right Certification
- The ability to successfully pass a criminal record and credit check through the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch
