As the Director of Racing, you will be responsible for development and enhancement of the quality of racing, supervising and directing the Racing Office Department, and performing the duties of the Racing Secretary.  Other duties include, but not limited to;

• Oversees the Grounds & Track Maintenance areas. 
• Recruitment of horses & racing personnel using industry network. 
• Establish a racing program for owners and trainers.  A
• llocate stalls for horses to race during the season. 
• Write and implement the condition book(s) of races for those horses. 
• Develop a purse, supplement, and stakes schedule for open and Iowa-bred horses. 
• Maintains and manages a complete record of all Racing data for Prairie Meadows and competitive set of Thoroughbred/Quarter horse racetracks. 
• Assists with the negotiations of contracts with horse owners, organizations, and other various contracts. 
• Provide racing related data or statistics as needed. 

Job Requirements: High school diploma required.  College degree in related field preferred.  Two years’ plus experience in the racing industry as Racing Secretary or Assistant Racing Secretary required.  Progressively more responsible management experience leading and directing a diverse staff.  Thorough understanding of racehorse industry.  Ability to plan races well in advance to gain maximum usage of those horses stabled on site.  Must be well networked throughout the industry to recruit personnel and horsemen to the facility.  Experience negotiating and mediating solutions.  Experience in a compliance and regulatory function. Proficient in Microsoft Suite (word, excel, outlook, etc.).  Working knowledge of budgeting processes, profit & loss statements.  Indoor & outdoor environment. Requires travel around country for recruitment of horses.  Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.
