Two horses euthanized after Bay Meadows spill

A multiple horse spill in in the fifth race at Bay Meadows Race Course on Saturday resulted in two jockeys going to the hospital while two runners were euthanized. The spill occurred on the far turn of the six-furlong race for maiden claimers when Little G Man, with David Lopez aboard, clipped the heels of Latin and went down. Knoblock, ridden by Luis Martinez, fell over Little G Man while Ward Brooks and Irish Yodeler also lost their jockeys while trying to avoid the fallen runners. Lopez was taken to Stanford Hospital with fractures to three ribs and a possible fractured leg. Martinez was taken to the same facility complaining of lower back pain. Jorge Ayarza and Douglas Portillo, aboard the trailing horses, also were unseated but did not need hospitalization. Little G Man, a four-year-old Sharan (GB) gelding, suffered major injuries and was euthanized on the racetrack along with Knoblock, a four-year-old Point Given gelding, who sustained a fractured front left knee.
